Smith and Wesson M&P

Husband and I finally made it to the range last week.  I took the opportunity to try out another pistol on my list, the Smith and Wesson M&P.  The one I tried was a 9mm compact.

Specs:

  • Length:  6.7 Inches
  • Overall Width: 1.2 Inches
  • Barrel Length: 3.5 Inches
  • Weight (unloaded): 1.36 lbs
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 12+1
  • Height:  4.3 Inches
  • Action: SA
  • Trigger Pull: 6.5 Pounds
  • Frame: Polymer
I shot mostly at 10 yards, had a good time.  With the exception of a couple flinches (totally my fault, just out of practice and there were some seriously loud echos going on that evening) everything went where I was aiming.  The sights on this gun are really easy to line up and see.

It was comfy, but felt less stable in my hand than some of the other compacts I've tried out.  I couldn't seem to get it to sit quite right and kept having to shift my grip after 3-4 shots.  Husband liked it a lot and commented that it didn't feel tiny in his hands the way most compacts do.

Fun, easy, comfy, accurate.  It fits all the major requirements.  But for some reason I didn't fall in love.  There are a couple more on my list, we'll see if they speak to me.  If not, I think I'll become an M&P owner, love will come later, right?

  1. I enjoy shooting mine, but I just can't feel the same about it as I do say, a Colt Commander.

  2. You will find a gun that works well and that you love. I don't think you have to sacrifice either ideals. There are lots of guns out there. Sounds like you are enjoying the process!,
