A day of going thunk

Several weeks ago husband and I went on a date.  It was glorious to get out and enjoy the sun and good company.  We headed south to check out the archery range at the game preserve.  This time with bows in tow!

Despite it being a Saturday with weather to die for, we had the place to ourselves.  And what a place it is!  The front/static range has 10 targets ranging from 10 to 60 yards.  As neither of us had gotten much string time in the last year we started at the 15 and 20 yd range.  Just to make sure things were going well and to knock off the rust.  We did well, hitting the targets at least, if not precisely where we hoped.

Then we headed over to play at the the 40-60yd ranges.  Well...this is where the rust started to show!  My first bolt fell well short and the husband didn't fare much better.  My second gave a resounding thunk.  Unfortunately it wasn't the nice soft thunk of a good target bag hit.  Rather the hard, worrisome think that meant I had hit the wood frame.  At that point, I expected to lose a tip at least, if not have a broken bolt.

Fortunately, my bolts did ok.  Not even a loose tip!  My husband however was not so lucky. He broke at least 3 and lost one in the weeds out beyond 60.

After several ends, we had had enough of the sun that was by then quite warm and headed into the woods.  There are 30 woods targets at a variety of distances on a big loop.  Shady and pretty!  We did about 2/3 of the targets, counting points.  We kept the points simple by just saying if you hit one of the 'dots' on the target you got a point, otherwise, no point.  Two arrows each per target.  Easy right?  Each target has 12-16 of those little dots.  How hard can that be?  Yeah...I think we ended up getting about 10 points combined.  In the end, the points didn't matter, we just had fun sending arrows down range and enjoying each other.

So, forgive me for not finding time to shoot guns.  Hopefully some archery will act as a place holder.  Life is crazy and not looking to get much better soon.  Research is eating my life, but I'm trying.  For now, I'm living vicariously through everyone else's blogs.

I'll end with this tally:  I started the day with 11 bolts and come home with 11.  Husband started with 11 and came home with 6 and several pieces.  He also spent much more time in the brush...I promise I didn't tease at all!
Well, maybe just a little teasing.
